GM Employee Purchase FAQ

Graff Bay City Chevrolet in Bay City MI

What has changed regarding the GM Employee Purchase Program (GMEPP)?

General Motors (GM) now requires customers to have their Authorization Number at the time of delivery. Many of our customers will not see any impacts from this change since they already request and receive their Authorization Number before taking delivery of their new vehicle. For some customers who previously took advantage of GM’s grace period to receive their Authorization Number this will be an adjustment.

What programs are affected by this change?

All programs related to the GM Employee Purchase Program and related programs including, but not limited to, GMS, GM Supplier Discount for Friends, GM Executive Discount, GM Legacy Discount and GM Supplier Discount.

How do I get an Authorization Number?

The website for employees and retirees to obtain an Authorization Number for themselves, their family or their friends is https://www.gmfamilyfirst.com/ and the telephone number is (800)235-4646.

As a customer, what can I do to make using the GMEPP easier?

GM recommends that customers who are shopping for a new vehicle either request their Authorization Number (in the case of GM Employees or Retirees) or have their family member request an Authorization Number for them (in the case of eligible family members or friends) when they begin shopping for a new vehicle. Obtaining this number ahead of time will help ensure that you will have it at the time of vehicle delivery.

How long do I have to use an authorization number and what happens if it isn’t used?

Authorization Numbers obtained are valid for 90 days toward the purchase or lease of an eligible, new vehicle. You must take delivery of the vehicle prior to the Authorization Number expiring.

If you don’t use your Authorization Number prior to the expiration date, the authorization will be added back into the employee’s account.

How long does it take to get an Authorization Number after it is requested?

Most Authorization Numbers are available immediately via the GM Family First website. Authorization numbers for Family First requested over the phone are delivered via FedEx or USPS for security reasons (allow 5 business days).

Family GM Legacy applications are typically reviewed within 5 business days. Upon approval, the customer must still request an Authorization Number from either the Family First web site or call center. An application submitted for Family Legacy does not guarantee approval.

Where can I find information on the GM Legacy Program?

You can find information on the GM Legacy program including eligibility requirements, an online application and program rules at https://www.gmfamilyfirst.com/family-legacy/
