Having a new driver in the family can cause anxiety and worry for parents. As your teen heads out into the world and onto the road, you want safety to be their number one priority. While safety is your biggest concern, it could easily be overlooked by your young driver in favor of excitement and fun. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that the fatal crash rate for 16-19 years olds in the U.S. is nearly 3x higher than with drivers over the age of 20. Loud music, distracting passengers, speeding, and honest inexperience are all factors in teen driver collisions. Chevrolet is here to help!
With the introduction of Teen Driver technology, paired with Chevrolet’s most advanced auto safety features, Chevrolet hopes to promote safer driving habits among the newest drivers on the road.View Availability

Chevrolet’s new Teen Driver technology aims to keep inexperienced drivers in the safest driving environment possible. The technology creates this environment by allowing you, the parent, to enable features such as speed limit control and alerts, radio volume limits, and active safety technology such as Forward Collision Alert, Front Automatic Braking and Side Blind Zone Alert. You can completely customize your set up, picking which features match your young driver’s needs. Don't hesitate to contact one of our Chevrolet Technology experts for a tutorial and walk-through of the system if you have any questions. Call today at (989) 684-4411.
Speeding is a very dangerous habit for young drivers, and unfortunately teen speeding is more prevalent than any other age group. To add to the issue, as a parent, there is no way to monitor and control this when you're not in the vehicle. Thanks to Chevrolet, Teen Driver technology now allows you to set a maximum speed value from 40-75 mph. When the driver reaches the set speed limit, audible and visual warnings will appear on the dashboard. The Teen Driver technology also allows you to set a speed restriction that limits the vehicle’s maximum speed to 85 miles per hour.
Teens love their music, and as you may not be surprised to learn, 93% of teen drivers play loud distracting music while driving. Chevrolet Teen Driver technology can keep your young driver in a safe environment by allowing you to set a volume limit. Additionally, it will mute the volume when the front safety belts are not fastened. If you need help setting the volume limit, feel free to ask one of our technicians when you’re in for your next auto service appointment!
The culmination of all of the Chevrolet Teen Driver features is the Teen Driver Report Card, which tracks the data of each the vehicle’s trips. It will record metrics like the distance travelled, forward collision alerts, and number of over-speed warnings. You can then review the Teen Driver Report Card with your driver to identify issues with your teen's driving and coach them on the areas where they need to improve. The report card exists to assist in learning and practicing healthy driving habits.
Chevrolet Teen Driver features are easy and intuitive to set up and personalize. The technology interfaces through the Chevrolet MyLink touchscreen display. To begin, enter your PIN to access the system and then follow the steps to register a key fob. When your teen is driving with the registered key, the Teen Driver features that you have set will become enabled.
